I read somewhere that it is considered very rude not to call ahead for a reservation. Is this true at temple lodging too, or is it OK to show up and just ask if there is an open room?

    Thanks

Sorry for taking so long to reply, i've been out of internet contact a bit.

It is considered rude because she prepares food the expected number of guests and no more. If you just show up, the owner has to scramble to find food to serve you, both for dinner when you get there and breakfast in the morning, although the breakfast isn't a big deal.

If you just show up and make it clear that you don't want any meals, just a bed and hot bath, then i don't think they would think anything of your just showing up unannounced. You aren't forcing them to come up with anything they can't already provide.
